The Office of Military Affairs performs a variety of duties that will support military-related or military-relevant programs necessary that will ensure a positive experience for the membership of Iota Phi Theta® Fraternity, Incorporated that are members of the United States Armed Forces.

Brother Dejon 'DJ' Holland

Gamma Alpha Omega Alumni Chapter (Central Texas)

Brother Holland is a Fall 2008 initiate of Kappa Chapter, Winston Salem State University. Brother Holland graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration in Justice Studies in May of 2012. Also, in Spring 2012 Brother Holland assisted in the Chartering of Gamma Nu Omega Alumni Chapter of Charlotte, NC as well as assisted in the recruitment and revival of Beta Theta Alumni Chapter, Johnson C Smith University,

Bro. Holland began his Military Career enlisting into the North Carolina Army National Guard as a Human Resource Specialist in June of 2006. Bro Holland has served in various positions for the HHC 113th Sustainment Brigade (Greensboro NC), Bravo Battery 5/113th Field Artillery (Winston Salem, NC) over the past 3 years Sergeant Holland served as a Financial Management Technician working for the Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) in Fort Hood. Currently, SGT Holland is attached to the 136th Regimental Training Institute Headquarters Detachment as a Budget analyst in the S-3 for the Texas Army National Guard.


In his civilian capacity, Bro Holland is a Budget Analyst for the Texas Military Department and provides Budget Guidance to Texas Army National Guard Facilities.

Since taking over the Director of Military Affairs helm Bro. Holland has worked to start several new programs that will benefit the recruitment of Military Personnel, Assisting Deployed Brothers overseas, and Job Placement for brothers who have finished serving in the US Armed Forces. Brother Holland's Goal for the Military Affairs Department is to be a viable force within the Fraternity.

Brother Robert Barnes III

Beta Tau Omega (Central to Western Maryland)


Brother Barnes was initiated into Beta Nu Omega Spring 2011, Fort Knox, Kentucky. Upon his permanent change of station to Fort Gordon, GA, he along with four others chartered Gamma Kappa Omega where he served as the Vice Polaris and Polaris. After retirement from the U.S. Army, he relocated and took his talents to Beta Tau Omega where he is currently serving as the Vice Polaris.

Bro. Barnes began his military career in the U.S. Army Reserves for 8 months before joining the Regular Army as a 71L (Administrative Specialist, HR). His assignment included 3/62 ADA Fort Drum, New York; 5th Signal Command, Worms, Germany; 2nd Signal Brigade, Mannheim, Germany; USASOC, Fort Bragg, NC; 3rd Signal Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas; US Army Recruiting, McKinney Recruiting Station, McKinney, Texas; 160th Signal Brigade, Camp Arifjan, Kuwait; 25th Signal Battalion, 550th Signal Company, Kandahar, Afghanistan; Human Resource Command, Alexandria, VA/Fort Knox, Kentucky. He served in every enlisted leadership position from a squad leader, platoon sergeant, First Sergeant, and Deputy Commandant & Commandant of the Cyber (Signal) Regimental Noncommissioned Officer Academy Fort Gordon, Georgia.


He has a Bachelor of Science from Excelsior College and a double Graduate degree in Management & Leadership and Information Technology Management from Webster University. Currently, he is enrolled in a Ph.D. program (Organizational Psychology) at Capella University.


In his civilian capacity, Bro. Barnes is an IT Specialist, with primary responsibility as a Contract Officer Representative for the Defense Information Systems Agency, Fort Meade, Maryland.

Since being selected by the Director of Military Affairs, Bro. Barnes is assisting the committee with starting several new programs which will benefit recruitment of military personnel, deployed brothers overseas, job placement for brothers transitioning from the US Armed Forces. Brother Barnes's goal is to be a viable member of the military affairs team and continue to improve on the IOTA foxhole.



Gulf Coast Region Director of Military Affairs


Brother Earlston Deschamps

Epsilon Omega Alumni Chapter (Gulf Coast Region)


Brother Deschamps is a Spring 2016 initiate of Epsilon Omega Alumni Chapter, in the Greater Atlanta, GA area. During his tenure at Epsilon Omega, Brother Deschamps Served as Chapter Secretary and is the current Chapter Vice Polaris. Bro Deschamps assisted in the Chapter 40th Anniversary Gala, Spearheaded the Troops' Holiday Care Packages, and is actively involved in the various community service projects that the chapter has undertaken.


Bro. Deschamps began his Military Career enlisting into the United States Army Reserve as a Healthcare Specialist (Combat Medic) in October of 2008. Bro Deschamps has served in various positions for 75th Combat Support Hospital (CSH) A Company (Forest Park, GA). Brother Deschamps has one Stateside Deployment with 335th Theater Signal Command, in which his aptitude and professionalism served to provide exceptional support of the medical readiness and training of the medical support staff.


In his civilian capacity, Bro Deschamps is a Veterans Service Representative for The Department of Veterans Affairs in Atlanta, GA. Former Military Sexual Trauma Coordinator at the Atlanta Regional Office, and currently specializing in Appeals for Compensation and Pension Claims.


Bro Deschamps before joining the Military served as the Army Family Team Building Program Manager in Hanau, Germany from 2005 -2007. Currently serves as a Minister for New Testament Gospel Worldwide Ministries Atlanta, GA.



Midwest Region Director of Military Affairs


Brother Diont'e Jimerson, Ed.D, MBA

Eta Omega Alumni Chapter (Chicago, IL)


Brother Jimerson is a Fall 2011 initiate of Eta Omega Chapter, Chicago, Illinois. During his tenure at Eta Omega Chapter, Brother Jimerson served as Chapter Vice Polaris and Midwest Regional Secretary.


Bro. Jimerson began his Military Career enlisting into the United States Army as an Ammunition Specialist in June of 2000. While on Active Duty Bro. Jimerson also went to Airborne School in Fort Benning, GA. His first and only duty station was the great 82nd Airborne Division in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Also, well station at Ft. Bragg he had numerous tours of duty. In 2008, Bro. Jimerson got wise and joined the United States Air Force Reserves where he is currently station in Youngstown Air Force Reserve Base in Youngstown, Ohio. His job there is as a Personalist Specialist.

In his Civilian capacity, Bro Jimerson is a Second-Grade teacher and 5th and 6th Basketball Coach at Barbara A. Sizemore Academy in Chicago, IL.



Southern Region Director of Military Affairs


Brother Allester Taylor


Brother Taylor is a Spring 2001 initiate of Delta Zeta Chapter, Indiana State University. During his tenure at Indiana State Bro. Taylor served as Chapter Polaris, Vice Polaris, Secretary, and Chapter Intake Coordinator. During his senior year at Indiana State, Bro. Taylor became a Life Member of Iota Phi Theta. After he left Indiana State, Bro. Taylor relocated to Missouri where he continued to work for the fraternity in the position of State Director. He was also a charter member of the Alpha Tau Omega – St. Louis Alumni Chapter. Under his leadership, Missouri saw growth in membership and chapters in the state. Adding 1 Alumni chapter, 3 Undergraduate chapters, and the Reactivation of 2 undergraduate chapters in Missouri. After his time in Missouri, his job relocated him to Chicago, IL where he moved back to his hometown of Gary, IN. Upon his return to the Chicago Metro Area, Bro. Taylor was asked to be the Sweetheart Liaison for the Midwest Region. In this position Bro. Taylor helped restructure the auxiliary to be more organized and operate to assist brothers until the transition of Iota Sweetheart, Inc. After this Bro. Taylor became the Indiana State Director where he helped re-build and sustain Indiana. Under his leadership in Indiana, he maintained 2 Alumni Chapters, Reactivation of 2 undergraduate chapters. Bro. Taylor relocated to Houston, TX in 2015. Since his relocation Bro. Taylor has continued to work as Intake Director and Military Affairs coordinator.


Bro. Taylor’s military career spans from 1999-2011. He served in the Army National Guard honorably for 12 years. He served in the Indiana and Missouri National Guards. He is proud of his service and is still sharing his story with young men and women who are looking into joining the armed forces.


In the civilian sector, Bro. Taylor is a proud Elementary Educator for the Aldine Independent School District in Houston, TX. He is a graduate of Indiana University Northwest and West Texas A&M University.


Bro. Taylor has a saying that he adopted from one of his Iota Mentors “Active Financial Membership has its REWARDS!” He remembers the Late Bro. Kenn White would tell brothers this all the time. This has stuck with Bro. Taylor since 4/13/01 has been just that Active and Financial. In his words, he says, “Remember your oath, your promise, and honor it!”
